Ddolbeng Picture Stories (“the service”) is a toy for children. The principle that matters most to us as its makers is not to take information we do not need. This document sets out plainly what the service does with information.
If you do not link an account, nothing is collected. There is no advertising and no analytics, and the service sets no cookies. Linking an account (section 4) is optional: until a grown-up links one, nothing is sent to any server and the code that would do so is never even downloaded.
The comics a child makes are kept in the browser's own storage (localStorage). What is stored is:
None of it leaves the device, and we cannot read it. Clearing site data in the browser deletes it, and a story can be deleted one at a time from the grown-up settings, behind the three-second press-and-hold.
The service lets a child write words in a speech bubble and give a story a name. What they write is up to them, so it is possible for a child to type something identifying, such as their own name.
We suggest talking to your child about not writing personal details.
The web host on which the service runs may keep ordinary web server logs (IP address, time of access, browser type) as part of normal operation and security. We do not use them to identify users or for analytics.
An account link is offered so comics can be carried between devices. It is optional; everything in the service works without it. Linking can only be started from the settings screen, behind the three-second press-and-hold.
Nothing uploads by itself. Data is sent only when a grown-up presses a save slot. There is no background sync.
“Save as picture” in the grown-up settings turns a comic into an image file and downloads it to your device. The file is produced on the device and is not sent anywhere. What happens to it afterwards is entirely the grown-up's choice.
This service is made for children. With no account linked, no personal information is collected, so there is nothing to consent to.
Where a child is below the age at which they can consent for themselves under local law, the account link in section 4 may be used only with the consent of a parent or guardian. The link can only be started from behind the grown-up check, so a child cannot complete it alone, and linking the account constitutes that consent. A parent or guardian may at any time ask to see, correct or delete the child's information, or stop its processing, and can stop it immediately with “Unlink” in the settings.
You and your child's guardian may at any time request access to, correction of, deletion of, or a halt to the processing of personal information. Write to the address below and we will act without delay and tell you the outcome.
With no account linked there is no personal information held, and the data on the device can be deleted immediately by the means in section 1.
The service is served over HTTPS throughout. Linked data is restricted by server rules to the account that owns it, and is encrypted in transit and at rest.
If this policy changes, the change and its effective date are posted on this page. Changes that matter to users — such as collecting more than before — are announced at least seven days in advance, and changes affecting children's information are made only with fresh consent from a parent or guardian.
